Champions at National Geography Challenge
The National University of Singapore Geography Challenge (NUS GC) is an annual non-profit Geography competition jointly organised by the NUS Department of Geography and the NUS Geographical Society for the last 20 years. It aims to ignite passion and inspire secondary school students to develop a keen interest for the dynamic discipline of Geography.
For 2017, a total of 114 schools registered for the Challenge with 50 schools making it to the semi-finals, and 5 schools competing at the Grand Finals. At the Preliminary rounds, the teams went through an individual quiz and a Creative Component which required teams to produce an infographic. At the semi-finals, participants took part in a Geo-Trail. Finally, in the Grand Finals held at UTown Auditorium, the top 5 teams competed for the Champion title through grueling rounds of team-based Q & A and oral presentations.
Our NUS High Team consisting of our Year 4 students - Hsiao Yu Jer, Timothy Lam Jia Rong and Amani Pek emerged as the Champion Team for NUS Geography Challenge 2017.
Besides winning the Champion title, Amani Pek was also awarded the Top Performing Individual (Silver) medal, and Timothy Lam the Top Performing Individual (Bronze) Medal at the Preliminary Round.
