Introduction


The Singapore Primary Science Olympiad (SPSO) is an annual national competition which has been organized by the NUS High School of Mathematics and Science since 2009. This competition, which is open to Primary 5 pupils in Singapore, comprises the Theory round and the Practical round. Selected participants from the Theory round will be invited to the Practical round held on a later date.

SPSO aims to

  • Identify Singapore's Science representatives for the International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO)
  • Generate greater interest in Biology, Chemistry and Physics among Primary school students
  • Cultivate enthusiasm and instil a passion for science subjects
  • Provide an avenue to showcase students' abilities in the subjects
  • Nurture talents in the Sciences



 


COMPETITION SCHEDULE FOR SPSO 2018


THEORY ROUND (WRITTEN)

Date: 7 July 2018, Saturday
Venues: NUS High School

Time: 9.30am to 10.45am


PRACTICAL ROUND 
(by invitation)


Date: 20 July 2018, Friday
Venue: NUS High School Laboratories
Time: in the afternoon (details to be confirmed)




Online registration period: 1st March, 8am, to 20th April 2018, 8pm

Award ceremony will be held on 25 August 2018, Saturday .

IMPORTANT REMINDER:
1. The award recipient's reporting time is 8.00 am.
2. Due to the limited parking lots available in NUS High School, parents who drive are required to park their vehicles at the nearby HDB car parks (Casa Clementi). We seek your understanding in this matter. 
3. Only authorized vehicles (with car plate numbers submitted through RSVP portal) are allowed to park in NUS High School. 


In preparation for the International Mathematics & Science Olympiad (IMSO), the top twenty students from the SPSO will be shortlisted for a training programme conducted by NUS High School. Within the training squad, six pupils will eventually be selected to form the Science team to represent Singapore in IMSO 2018.
