A COMMENDABLE PERFORMANCE AT THE INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIAD IN ASTRONOMY AND ASTROPHYSICS

The 10th International Olympiad in Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) was held in India from 9 – 19 December 2016. The IOAA is the most prestigious international competition for astronomy and astrophysics, with teams from 42 countries taking part. The annual competition consists of three segments – observation, theory and data analysis. In the observation round, competitors are tested on their familiarity with the night sky and the use of telescopes. Theoretical problems are constructed in line with breakthrough discoveries such as those on exoplanets and gravitational waves.

We would like to congratulate our student - Sidharth Chambocheri Veetil (Year 3) for obtaining Honorary Mention in the competition. He is also the youngest member of the Singapore team this year.
