Ad Liberation Public Speaking Competition

Gideon Lee of M13504 and Sherilyn Chew of M13507, members of the Gavel Club, participated in the Ad Liberation Public Speaking Competition (Pair Round), a new oratorical competition organised by the Raffles Gavel Club. In competition with students from RI, Victoria JC and other top schools, they emerged as First-Place Winners.

Gideon and Sherilyn were given 45 seconds to prepare for a 4-minute impromptu speech, and were required to speak together. Ad liberation 2013 is an oratorical competition dedicated entirely to impromptu speaking, which is seen as a means of empowering students to step out of their usual shells into authentic self-expression.

Singapore Inter-Gavel Club Speech Competition (SIGSC)

Brendan Dean of M13605 won 2nd place and Lee Tze How of M13608 won 3rd place in the International Speech category and Mohammad Al Wasi Hossain of M13407 copped 3rd place in the Table Topics category of the Singapore Inter-Gavel Club Speech Competition (SIGSC) last weekend. These achievements cement a tradition of excellence at the Gavel-Debate Club: its SIGSC contestants have won either 1st or 2nd place in at least one category for four consecutive years now. All the Gavel Clubs in the country sent representatives and several Toastmasters were judges at the competition that NUS High’s Gavel-Debate Club hosted.
