NUS High School students are First Runner-up in Amazing Science X Challenge 2011

The Amazing Science X Challenge (ASXC) is an annual nation-wide competition to challenge teams to design and build a standalone exhibit that illustrates a science phenomenon. Winning criteria include creativity, viewer engagement and having the X-factor!

Bao Quoc Nguyen (M11302), Ha Quang Trung (M11303) and Eun Jung Min (M11302) won first runner-up in the category B (for secondary 1-4 students) with their exhibit “The Heat Chamber”. It illustrates the Leidenfrost effect, which is the principle behind why liquid skitters across an extremely hot surface.

Huynh Van Tu An (M11409 ), Yo Eri Tiffany (M11503) and Lee Han Jie (M11406) won first runner-up in the category C (for junior college & ITE students) with their exhibit “Starry Starry Night”. It shows how intriguing geometrical images can be formed by shining a laser pointer onto mirrors mounted with diffraction grating and rotated at varying speeds.
