NUS High School Clinched Overall Top Small Team Delegation award for Excellent Performance in WEMUNC 2011
What is WEMUNC?
It is the largest Model United Nations Conference platform in Asia, organized by WELAND in China, comprising more than 2000 delegates from around the world. Students take up the roles of diplomats to debate on issues in the interests of their assigned countries as well as the international community and strive to arrive at consensus resolutions through diplomacy. Prior to the Conference, every delegate had to write and submit his/her assigned country’s position papers (each delegate had to write two position papers on 2 issues respectively) to his/her Chair/Director of the Committee explaining the country’s stand pertaining to the issues. The country assigned to us was Ireland.
How did we perform?
There were 41 committees in total and being a small team comprising 9 students only, our delegates were in 9 committees out of 41. Out of the 9 committees, 7 of our students won the various awards in their committees. The Individual Awards were decided by the committees’ Chairs/directors from Model UN Secretary-Generals from Universities such as Ivy League, Harvard, University of Chicago etc.
As our school garnered the most awards even though we were a small team, we were awarded the overall Top Small Team Delegation award for Excellent Performance in WEMUNC 2011.
