NUS High School Bags Champion Trophy at the Inaugural National Climate Change Competition 2011
A team from NUS High School has emerged as the champion in the JC/CI/ITE category of the inaugural National Climate Change Competition organised by the National Climate Change Secretariat (NCCS) in the Prime Minister’s Office. The winning team comprised four Year 6 students Ee Zhixin (M11603), Qu Tian Lu (M11602), Timothy Tan Xin Zhong (M11605) and Tong Chee Ying (M11605), with mentor Mrs. Madeline Lim-Chen from the Humanities Department. The team was awarded a cash prize of $1,500 and a champion trophy.
The competition required the team to brainstorm for solutions to address the problem of climate change, and thereafter submit a written report and present their solutions to a panel of judges from various fields. Their proposal on using kang kong vegetables and cyanobacteria as forms of bio-filters in the Singapore water and air environments respectively caught the attention of the judges as a proposal that can help engineer Singapore’s environment to be cleaner as well as even provide the city with its own food production right in the urban rivers of Singapore.
Congratulations to the winning team!
