NUS High Team “Per Ardua Ad Astra” Wins First Prize in the 3rd Singapore Space Challenge 2010
The NUS High team “Per Ardua Ad Astra”, comprising of team members Chia Song Zhi, Jeremias Wong, Le Minh Tu, Nguyen Duy Long, Sanchit Bareja (Leader) and Tan Je Hon, has done the school proud by overcoming 18 other teams from other higher educational institutions to bag the Grand Prize of $10,000 in the Singapore Space Challenge 2010. This Competition is open globally to all tertiary-education students.
The objective of this year’s Space Challenge is to design a Spaceplane which must not exceed a budget of $500 million over 10 years. The maximum take-off weight of the spaceplane must not exceed 12,500 kg.
The team’s proposal includes variable sweep wings, RS-2200 VentureStar aerospike engine which utilizes a gas generator cycle and liquid oxygen (Oxidizer), and hydrogen (Fuel) as its propellants.
The Singapore Space Challenge is hosted by the Singapore Space and Technology Association (SSTA). The main goals of this competition are to promote an interest in space among tertiary students and encourage their participation in space-related activities.
