NUS High School Student Comes Out Top in YMCA Plain English Speaking Awards (PESA) 2010

Jayashri Shobna Venketasubramanian (M10406) of the Gavel Club has been named the champion of the secondary category of the YMCA Plain English Speaking Awards (PESA) 2010. The YMCA Plain English Speaking Awards 2010 is a programme organised by YMCA of Singapore, in partnership with the Ministry of Education, the National Library Board and Speak Good English Movement. The programme aims to provide an avenue for students to sharpen their speaking skills and to build confidence in public presentation; to promote public speaking in plain English as an important communication skill; and to provide an opportunity for students to learn by observing proficient speakers.

Jayashri is slated to receive her award at a presentation ceremony on 17 September 2010. Another NUS High School student, Ulysses Chong, was a semifinalist in the junior college category. Jayashri and Ulysses competed with the best speakers of the other independent schools in both Prepared Speech and Impromptu Speech.

Congratulations!
