NUS High School Team Won 2nd place in the 17th Nanyang Polytechnic Astronomy Competition 2014
NUS High School took part in the 17th Annual NYP Astronomy Competition 2014 for secondary schools in Singapore on 7 March 2014.
The competition inspires students’ interest in science and technology through the participation in astronomy and science related activities. This year’s competition includes a new category, namely Alliance category, on top of the existing categories (Advanced and General). The aim of this category is to introduce the fundamentals of astronomy and foster friendships among the students from various schools.
This category will have the following features:
--Lectures covering the basics of astronomy will be given by the organizer to the participants who might not have any knowledge of astronomy.
--Participating school will send 3 students which will be split and arranged by the organizer to form alliance teams with other schools. Each alliance team will consist of 3 students from different schools. The members in the team will collaborate and work on assignment and project. The overall result will be based on the scores of the assignment and project.
--Prizes for the Champion and the 3 Runners-Up. In addition, prize winners of the category will be given a guided tour of NYP Observatory and hands-on experience with 17” CDK telescope and 4” Takahashi telescope on Paramount equatorial mount.
