NUS High School Clinches Top School Award In The Singapore Statistical Poster Competition 2014
Aparna Mahadevan, Ganesan Vishalini and Yaazhini (all from M14601) did the school proud by winning first prize in the Junior College category. Their poster “How Emergency Prepared are We?” is a study to determine if emergency preparedness varies with age and citizenship status as well as whether the proportion of families that are equipped to deal with civil and environmental emergencies is significant.
Jee Dong Jun, Joe Chua Jia Liang and Ou Yang Zhong Liang @ Ou Yang Chung Liang (all from M14607) won the second prize in the Junior College category. Their poster “Simple Random Sample vs Voluntary Response” is a study to analyse whether the responses obtained through voluntary responses are truly representative of the opinions of the population, as well as investigate if there are differences in student council perception between students of different levels.
NUS High School was also awarded the Top School award in the Junior College category. This is the 3rd time we won this award in the 4 years that we have participated.
Background
The Singapore Statistical Poster Competition is an annual competition organised by the Department of Statistics and Applied Probability, NUS. It aims to increase student awareness of statistics, its relevance to scientific research, and the development of statistical reasoning in students.
